I’m 48 today so time for a short but self indulgent Birthday Post. 48 (that’s nearly 50!) used to be old. Look at old movies, say a 60’s grim up north kitchen sink drama, and people in their 40s are proper grown-ups and usually miserable and look like what would now pass for 60 (at least). Thank God for the extended adolescence we all have now. I’m going to do my best to grow old disgracefully and resist the urge to moan out loud about the crap the youth of today calls music because that gives me away (I’ll still do an internal groan). And don’t get me started on the state of the film industry!
Anyway, to celebrate I’ve decided to post my theme tune. It’s from one of Todd Rundgrens ‘difficult’ proggy albums but it’s actually a wonderful piece of psychedelic pop and the words seem to fit.
Nice that you should post Real Man (there seems to be no Todd in circulation) but it made me miss the original version on "Initiation" which I haven't heard for years. Lotta Love, Michael
True story: you gave it away previously and I actually wrote in my Real Pen & Ink Diary - 'Mick = 48". And then, well, you know...a mate turned up, a bottle was opened, we had to watch 'Merlin' with the girlies (good one tonight I thought) and...FECKIT! I FORGOT!!!
What really Pen & Inks is your excuse for being late. I just said to the missus "He's not flying to Switzerland til Sunday so there's no excuse." You got there in the end though and I thank you.
Actually Mick I was expecting a Birthday blog dedicated to me !! Plus the number One from the day I was born...Cor that Flannagan and Allen, they were a pair of cards!!
Happy birthday Mick from the H's. Little Sophie Rose just missed it and was born on the 16th - how come they all look like father when they're new born? Maybe the frown and stare. Believe me 48 is nothing. I've found your blog at 58!!! and you had a 3 year old that put me to shame. Don't worry, I won't stalk you.
Happy belated birthday Mick - hope you had a tear up, know exactly what you mean about the old school over fourties (and even over thirties) - even back in the 80s anyone over 32 was typically some middle aged fuddy with a moustache - when (and why) did it all change - great tunes BTW there's not enough Elvis on the blogs is there?
What's this, another sibling reading my blog? I'm glad I never mentioned I stole her Byrds single 30-years ago. Jon, To be fair i was talking to you on Saturday about Phil Spector and I could have dropped a hint. Mondo, I haven't thought this through full but I think things started to change in the 80s when the when the old 60s music fans didn't see why they should 'grow out' of their music.
I wont tell mum! I promise I will never look again!!! OK you can keep the Byrds single but don't tell another brother I nicked his Penticost Hotel by the FIRST Nirvana band.
With all you buggers nicking each others records I'm glad I kept mine under close scrutiny. By the way Mick I have replaced that Fred Wedlock album, you can now come clean about the originals disappearance.
All tracks are for sampling purposes only and are available for a limited amount of time. If you like the music, please support the artist by purchasing their music. If you are representing an artist and want a track removed, contact me and it will be done.

Fuck me, Dick, you've just made me realise my date of birth is nearer the end of WWI than it is to the present. I need to lie down.

Sorry it's late, but happy birthday for yesterday, Michael, and many more of them. All my very best, Steve.
Well, I expect it from him, Davy. And I can forget his later this month.
Thank you, Miss P.
Steve,
I expected you to be late because of the time difference so thanks.
Can I claim time difference too? I'm almost in another country. Well, Wales.

Always late to the party - usually by 5 hours. But Happy Belated, Mick!

That DID cross my mind, Mick. I chalk it up to mad revelry!
..and another thing. Don't show this blog to my mum again. Last time she told me off for tell everyone she was 80.
I wont tell mum! I promise I will never look again!!! OK you can keep the Byrds single but don't tell another brother I nicked his Penticost Hotel by the FIRST Nirvana band.
