Pretend a stranger is my friend

This is a record I got from ebay for 99p a few weeks ago. It was advertised as rare English synthpop and I had never heard of it so I thought I would give it a go. It’s from 1985 so when she sings ‘Pretend a stranger is my friend’ she’s not referring to Facebook, Twitter, blogs etc. but that’s what the title makes me think of. That and the love-in that’s developed under my Jeanette post.

Talking Drums - Pretend A Stranger (1985)

That's possibly the most eighties sounding record I've ever heard. There's actually a decent song, buried under all the studio gloss.

I might have a rude imagination... but I swear I can see a bum in that picture...

It's not just you, Webbie. I also see a pair of pert buttocks. I dread to think what this would say about us if it were a Rorschach test.

That really is pure 1985. I like it!

Odd that a single I didn't really know what to do with has generated some interest. Do the verses remind anyone else of Roxette's The Look?

Yes a bit, but what I want to tell you is that the Talking Drums track sounds so much better if you play it a little fast (I'm using editing software, of course).
