Los Bravos con Bob

I stumbled upon this on YouTube recently and it’s pretty good. My ex brother-in-law’s (used to be married to my sister) claim to fame was that he sang with Los Bravos for a while. This excellent clip from Spanish TV shows him in action. My eight year old thinks it’s brilliant.

Interestingly, considering the events this week, the last time I saw him was at a Think Floyd show where his daughter (my niece) was appearing in a production of The Wall.

Scorchio! Which one is he?

He's the singer. I should have said lead singer. He didn't sing 'Black is Black'. This is from 1969 I think.

It's so up my street I can't quite take it all in one go - the trousers, the cuffs, the collars, the choreography (DIY style) - the look-a-likes: him from Brotherhood of Man on bass, Austin powers on guitar, a stage-side drummer and sax the size of a factory chimney...

*goes cross eyed and faints from retro overload*

Thanks Mondo, I laughed out loud at the Austin Powers comment. I think they've got Jason King on sax too. Bizarrely, I thought the bass player looked a bit Captain Beefheart

The last time I saw Bob was during the 1994 world cup. He turned up just as Holland Vs Brazil was starting. He cleared my drinks cabinet and I missed a classic game. He also brought round an acetate from a 1969 Elton John session he was at. To the best of my knowledge the track has never been commercially released, unfortunately he took it on with him !!

Was Bob Spanish then? 'Bob' is not a very Spanish name, is it? How did your sister, that nice lass we once saw pictured by the crazy golf on Paignton sea front, end up wed to a 60s Europop star? I cannot help but feel that you raise more questions than you answer with this lovely 'clip'...

No, Bob's not Spanish. If you watch the introduction the host introduces the band and the song Bob says "That's the boy!" I believe he only sang with the band for about a year but I know he kept in touch with at least one of them. I first met him in a pub on one of my occasional visits to my home town in the 80s and didn't twig he was with my sister. She was in her 20s and he was in his 40s (it seemed ancient at the time) and I thought he must be my brother's mate. I've got an album he made in the 80s. I'll post some of it one day.

'That's the boy' does rather give him away.

I got a bollocking from my sister at the time because I was trying to ask wordlessly and discretely “who is this guy?” but apparently after several beers I wasn’t very discrete at all.
