Live b-side part 3...

This is the b-side I was going to post on Friday before I decided to go with those wonderful China Crisis songs instead.

mp3: Simple Minds - Premonition (Live) (1979)

This slightly crackly version of Premonition was the b-side of Changeling and was recorded at Hurrah’s Club, New York 24 Oct 1979.

Studio version of Premonition and full version of Changeling are on Reel To Real Cacophony.

Buy Simple Minds

I think I’ll give b-sides a rest for a while – but they will return…

I really appreciate you letting us share these great live tracks from the backs of 12 inch singles - singles which I mostly used to have & which I stupidly let go. Every one has been a gem!

You’re most welcome dman. I’m just glad I was too much of a hoarder to get rid of any vinyl.

Thanks for making me feel sooo old with your recent choices - I saw China Crisis support Simple Minds at the Caird Hall, must have been 1983. Jim Kerr's vocals don't sound too bad either, I seem to recall some really ropey live versions, particularly New Gold Dream - I still cringe thinking about it.

Ah, the Caird Hall. Mrs Mick claims to have seen Kim Wilde there for free. Apparently the tickets sold so poorly they gave some away to local schools.

Unfortunately, I never got to see Simple Minds or China Crisis. Simple Minds always looked a good live act whenever I saw them the Tube, ORS etc. Jim Kerr is the only person I can dance like – that’s a confession, not a boast.

Simple Minds. Once known as Johnny & the Self Abusers.

Saw them on many occasions in the late 70s and early 80s. Vey much the local heroes in Glasgow until.....'Hey Hey Hey Hey....ooooohhaah'

The early stuff was incredible and they were a cracking live act.

Incidentally, Charlie Burchill's granny and grandad live next door to my mum and dad....

If only they had moved in 25 years ago...I could have had a quiet word in the guitarist's ear and prevented stadium rock.

You could have had a quiet word but I fear money talks louder…

Thanks for the fab b-sides....

Simple Minds/China Crisis at the Caird Hall - bloody hell I was there too. SM were superb live...still are apparently. Saw some great shows at the Caird Hall - from Eddie & The Hot Rods/Squeeze/Radio Stars to The Clash in 1980, the latter being the best I've ever seen. Jeez..28 years ago!

Yes the Minds were awesome back then. I think that was the tour where Jim Kerr climbed up on some metal stand thing to sing some slow numbers. I remember the constant stream on sweat pouring off his body - impressive yet disgusting!

Honestly, I don't set out to make you people feel old. I've only just got out of thinking of the 80's as 'about 10 years ago' and it's horrifying to think 1980 was actually 28(!!!) years ago.

I am so 980's I can't figure out how to give myself an identity - Anonymous!
